A Vancouver couple turned their dream of a destination wedding in Ireland into reality
While for many couples, a destination wedding brings to mind a tropical beach getaway, for Vancouver’s Erin and Rob, it meant jetting off to Ireland.
For Erin, the decision was a nod to her Irish roots, but it was also because she and Rob fell in love with both the country and the historic K Club hotel. Formerly a grand 19th-century country estate, the mansion is now a luxury hotel and country club located a short distance from Dublin.
“Planning a destination wedding was a challenge and possibly added more stress than a local wedding,” admits Erin, “but our wedding planner made everything easier and definitely took a lot of the pressure off us.”
The couple’s local wedding planner was able to organize the vendors and serve as a go-between since the time difference between B.C. and Ireland made direct communication difficult.
For their big day, about 50 of Erin and Rob’s family and friends from around the world made the trip to Dublin. “We will always be grateful that they were all there to celebrate the day with us,” says Erin.
Their spiritual ceremony included the Irish tradition of hand fasting, while a pianist and violinist played the couple’s classical selections throughout. Afterwards, guests sat down to an elegant dinner, which was finished off with a specially made sticky toffee pudding that proved to be “a great hit.”
“Our day ended with dancing and fireworks,” says Erin. “Our wedding planner, all of our friends and family and our various vendors all came together to help make our dream wedding come true – and we couldn’t have asked for a more amazing day.”
